MY IRISH ORIGINS

My main Irish family is that of my own surname of McDonnell which originated in the Townland of Callowbrack near Newport in County Mayo. My great great grandfather Johnny McDonnell first leased a farm in Callowbrack in 1855. He was born, not sure where,in 1700 and died in 1800 in Newport

It is believed that Johnny McDonnell had a sister called Nellie.

He was married to a Bridget Casey who came from Claremorris in Co. Mayo. She was born in 1800 and died 1800

They had the following children

My grandfather Thomas McDonnell

married Catherine HORAN from Tauneyoggan not far from Newport. Their children were

Except for John (my Father) and Anne who stayed in Callowbrack and married Patrick Dyra all the others went to the U.S.A. in the early 1900s There they used the surname od McDonald.

MY AMERICAN IRISH CONNECTIONS

Many of my aunts and uncles Michael, Thomas, Ellen, Catherine (Kate) Bridget all went to America in the early 1900s and used the McDonald Spelling of the surname.

Thomas married a Barbara Moran

MY ENGLISH ORIGINS

My maternal main family line is that of ROSE originating in Huntingdonshire and ended up in Somersetshire.

Henry Rose married a Fanny Williams in Cannock Staffordshire in 1879 and they moved to Somerset.

Fanny Williams was a seventh daughter of John Williams and Ann (Smallwood)
